Timothy Bengo, Malawi
Timothy is a nominee for the 2017 Young Achievers Awards in Malawi, in the HIV and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) category. The Awards will be held on International Youth Day (12 August 2017). Since completing training at YPLA, he has assumed the responsibility of representing Youth Network and Counselling (YONECO) Radio in different high level meetings, especially thematic meeting on young people and SRHR. He has also been spearheading Career Guidance Sessions under YONECO in local schools in Lilongwe.
Timothy is a 2017 YPLA mentee currently employed as an intern (reporter) at YONECO Radio. He is a qualified Journalist and graduate of the Malawi Institute of Journalism. He has been a member of the Youth Action Movement in Malawi since 2010, assuming various leadership roles and advocating for the rights of young people in his country. He has served as a Peer Educator, an antiretroviral (ART) Adherence Counsellor and Chairperson of Nzotheka, a network of young people living with HIV (YPLHIV). Additionally, he has been actively involved in national advocacy initiatives on SRHR rights of YPLHIV under Nzotheka, including being involved in a discussion panel with Malawian President, His Excellency Peter Mutharika.
